Swallow Union Weekly Update Week of September 26th, 2022

Dear Swallow Union Families,

I am looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow evening at our Color Fun Run!

Mrs. Jarvis

Parent Reminder

As we close out our first month of school and bus routes stabilize, please be aware of what time your child(ren) are being dropped off to you at the end of the day.  We have experienced consistent challenges with students being brought back to the school because a parent/guardian was not there to receive them.  Thank you for your help with this!

Message from our PTO

Please join us on Thursday, September 29 at 7pm in the SU Cafeteria to learn about our upcoming events and how you can be involved!

Message from our Health Office

The Hearing and Vision Screeners will be here at Swallow Union the weeks of October 16th and October 23rd. This is a state mandated program. Students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade will have hearing and vision testing; students in 4th grade will have vision testing. If a child does not pass the screening, parents will receive a referral for follow up with their health care provider. If you do not want your child to participate in this program, please notify the nurse using the form attached below by October 7th.

Early Literacy Night!

Thursday, October 20, 2022

7:00 PM

Zoom!

Please join us to learn more about how our whole community works together with our youngest students on emergent and early literacy skills. Those important skills, such as phonemic awareness, letter/sound knowledge, concepts of print, and oral language knowledge build the foundation that is needed to be a successful reader and writer beyond the early years. We will share how we work with learners at school in these areas. We will also share some ideas for how to make literacy a part of your daily life at home. You will get a chance to hear from Amanda Densmore, the PreK-8 ELA Supervisor, as well as literacy specialists from both Swallow Union and Florence Roche. We look forward to seeing you!

Anyone is welcome to join us, but our focus will be literacy instruction in K-2. Interested PreK families are encouraged to join as well.

Lost and Found

We have so many missing sweatshirts and jackets waiting to be found!  Please take a peek or ask your child(ren) to come and look for any missing articles of clothing and water bottles!  Thank you!
