Ms. Salvatore & Mr. Day Connect with Families of 4th Graders

The GDRMS administrative team visits our elementary schools each year to support a smooth and welcoming transition for outgoing 4th-grade students and their families.

This morning, Ms. Salvatore and Mr. Day hosted a Family Coffee at Swallow Union, offering families the chance to meet their future middle school administrators, ask questions, and learn more about what to expect in 5th grade.

From schedules and lunch to lockers and daily routines, no topic was off limits—helping families feel more confident and informed about the exciting road ahead. Events like this help ease the transition and give families a glimpse into what a day in the life of a 5th grader at GDRMS looks like.

If you were unable to attend not to worry! Here is the slidedeck of what was discussed. Please take a moment to complete their parent survey to provide them with feedback.

Their biggest message was to reach out to them anytime about anything at all!

Grade 4 Final Elementary School Concert Performance

Last night, under the direction of Mrs. Sara Mohan, our 4th graders took the stage for their final concert as Swallow Union Tigers. The performance was a joyful celebration of their hard work and growth, filled with pride, excitement, and shining moments from every student.

A heartfelt thank you to our 4th-grade teachers for your support and presence—it meant so much to the students and their families.

Student Council’s Final Campaign: Stocking the Summer Food Pantry

Our Student Council is wrapping up the year with one final campaign—collecting items to help stock the local food pantry for the summer months.

Thank you to our generous families for your continued support of these student-led initiatives. We’re proud to support our students as they take part in meaningful activities that extend beyond the classroom and make a positive impact in our community. Drive starts Monday!

Memorial Day School Assembly

Last year, Swallow Union began a new Memorial Day tradition of hosting our local service members to join us for a day of remembrance. We welcomed several families and Dunstable residents who have served or are currently serving in our armed forces. At the same time, Mrs. Mohan, the Music Teacher, led our school in song, and our Student Council spoke words of appreciation and recognition.

This year, we would like to open this event to all families who would like to attend and be part of the audience. We will begin at 9:45 am in our gym and will have the bleachers out for families who wish to attend. Please enter through the front of our school, where you will be greeted and escorted down to the event by a member of our student council.

If you are a member of our military and want to be more active in this event (special guest seats, speaking role), please email Jill Jarvis (jjarvis@gdrsd.org) so we can plan to greet you! We ask that you be here between 9:00 - 9:30 a.m. so you have time to partake in coffee, tea and light refreshments. We will have guest seating where you can be honored and a chance to speak to the students if you wish.

GDEF Teaching Stars

Are you looking for a unique way to recognize a Teacher, Administrator, or Other Staff/Community Member for their hard work and the impact they’ve had on your child? GDEF Teaching Stars are the perfect gift! They are a great way to say "Thank You" while helping enrich the schools by donating to the Groton-Dunstable Education Foundation (GDEF). Certificates are great for showing gratitude in November or as a holiday gift in December! Learn more here about how to show an educator how much they are appreciated with a Teaching Star: https://www.gdefinc.org/teaching-star

Parent/Guardian Notes Required for any changes in Dismissal

If your child(ren) has a change in dismissal from their normal plan, a written note or email to the teacher is required. Please be sure to send that note the same day noting the change. From there, those notes go to the office, where we verify the change and create a bus slip for the bus drivers. This ensures students are going where their parents have arranged and provides permission to the bus drivers to take them (or drop them off at a different stop). Students are not allowed to change their dismissal plans on their own.
