School Bus Expectations ~ Follow Up

Shout out to our families for having conversations with your children about what SU’s Core Values look and sound like on our school buses.  Several of our amazing bus drivers have shared with me that this week has been SO much better for everyone!  Your partnership with us is appreciated and valued as we continue to teach and support our students so they can be set up for success.

Update about Online Ordering for School Lunches

Many parents have inquired about being unable to order their child's school lunches online.  A letter was emailed earlier this school year to families by Mark Shaw, General Manager of Whitsons Culinary Group, informing parents that online ordering would no longer be utilized.  This platform was created when COVID-19 began to assist the kitchen staff in fulfilling orders for students and families.  This online app was not particularly useful last year and at Swallow Union, we moved to having our teachers take a lunch count and turn that in each morning to the kitchen staff.  This has proven to be more effective and accurate for all!  One less worry for families at home and rest assured your child(ren) will be good to go with receiving a school lunch.  Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Ti-GRRR Awards

G = Growth, R = Respect, R = Responsible, R = Resilient

This week we are highlighting several students who have earned a Ti-GRRR Award.  Well done second graders for showing up in this space in October!

Hannah Hewitt has been recognized by Mrs. Codyer for her Growth in reading!  She started out by making a goal to use new reading strategies when tackling “Merry Watson” and with hard work, ended up reading the whole series of six!  Outstanding Hannah and I loved how much you enjoyed reading those books!

Another amazing second grader was nominated by Mrs. Bushnell for Ian Cole for showing us what it means to be a Respectful and Responsible student.  Ian consistently comes ready to learn, shows independence with his materials, and completes his work as expected all while showing respect to his peers and teachers!  Keep up the great work Ian!

When others are learning ways to show kindness and respect, Max McLane in Mrs. Codyer’s second-grade class is the act to follow!  He earned a Ti-GRRR Award for always showing Respect to his classmates by accepting who they are as a person.  He is patient, kind, and helpful to his classmates throughout the school day.  Thank you Max for being a strong role model!

Callan Hewitt earned his Ti-GRRR Award for demonstrating to his teacher that he is Responsible.  He comes to school with a positive attitude, is ready to learn using his whole body listening, and tries his best in school!  Way to go Callan for showing your classmates what it means to be a responsible student in Kindergarten!

Well done Rory Dotchin for showing Respect to a friend.  During recess, he noticed a classmate was sitting on the Buddy Bench looking sad so he went over and invited him to play.  He was nominated by Mrs. Rozzi for showing kindness to a peer and for reminding us how important kindness is and the positive impact that it has on others!

Substitute Nurses Needed:

The Groton-Dunstable Regional School District is looking for substitute School Nurses. Must be an RN. Please contact Lorinda Dishington Ortiz, District Nursing Coordinator, at lortiz@gdrsd.org for more information. Thank you!

School Start Time

The school day begins right at 8:55 am and both bus and parent drop off areas are completed at this time as well.  If you bring your child to school after this time, please park in the parking lot and walk your child into the office to be signed in.  Please do not drop your child off at the front door alone and please refrain from parking in the fire lane for safety reasons.

Absences

If your child(ren) will be absent for any reason, parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the school by calling in the absence.  All student absences must be reported by 8:55 am by calling (978) 649-7281, choose option #1 and provide your child(rens) name, teacher, and reason for absence.  Anyone who calls after this timeframe may receive an automated call regarding your child’s absence from school without notification.  This is in place to ensure all students are accounted for either at home or in school.

Wellness Policy

Below please find the District’s Wellness Policy that we follow in order to ensure we are reinforcing healthy habits as well as student allergies.  Teachers will be working with their Room Parents, School Administration, School Nurses and our PTO to ensure food that comes into school for school sponsored events (not including PTO sponsored events) such as special classroom events and school-wide gatherings, adhere to this policy.  Thank you in advance for helping us with this throughout the school year.
