Swallow Union Update

Week of March 20th, 2023

Thank you to GDEF, Nicole Pelletier, and Jennifer Dinneen for bringing Hip Hop Promotes Positivity to Swallow Union this week.  We kicked off our week with a school-wide assembly being reminded of what bullying can look and feel like and why it is important to be kind and respectful!  Their message of spreading positivity means peace, love, and respect for everyone!

The message from Hip Hop Promotes Positivity aligns with our Core Values!

Ti-GRRR stands for Growth, Respect, Resilience, and Responsibility.  As we head into the final week of March (hard to believe), students will meet once again in a school-wide assembly to talk about these values, how to demonstrate them throughout their day, and the introduction of Ti-GRRR Cards.  Classroom teachers will revisit the meaning of each core value, the importance of being a positive role model in our school community, and how teachers will be “catching” students demonstrating our core values during the school day and recognizing them with a Ti-GRRR card!

Donate Baked Goods!!

The Science Fair still needs volunteers to help with the event, donating your time or baked goods & snacks. Please review the available slots on Signup Genius.  There will be a bin at the Swallow Union entrance to collect nonperishable items the week of March 27th. Baked goods would be due Friday morning, March 31st by 10 am. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080a49afab2fa0fe3-20231#/

Building-Based Substitute Opening

Swallow Union is looking to hire a building-based substitute teacher - spread the word!  This position recently became available, posted on School Spring Job ID# 4174547, and does not require a teaching certification.  Please contact Mrs. Jarvis with any questions about this position!

Message from the Health Office

Beginning the week of March 27th during PE class, the nurses will be measuring heights and weights and calculating BMI for all students in Grades 1 and 4.  This is required annually by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  All data will be provided to the MA DPH anonymously. This information is not automatically sent home to parents, however, if you wish to see your child’s BMI results, you may contact the nurse and we will be happy to provide this for you. Parents and guardians may also request, in writing, that their child not participate in this program.  Please use this link BMI Screening Refusal Form (print and send in with your child or email it to jgervais@gdrsd.org or kdeloureiro@gdrsd.org) to inform the health office of your intent to opt your child out no later than Friday, March 17th.
