Family memo

Hello Middle School families.  I hope you had a great weekend.

As I am sure you heard from Dr. Chesson and maybe the news there was a virus at the Florence Roche Elementary school on Friday.  I sure hope that any of our middle school families that also have students at FloRo are healthy and on the mend.  If you do have any middle schoolers who got sick we urge you to call your pediatrician and keep your student home for 72 hours after symptoms have resolved.  More information will come from Dr. Chesson later tonight.

Grade 8:

  • Is your child applying to another school for next school year? Please read this information about our process for requesting teacher recommendations and school transcripts.  You may contact your child's school counselor with any specific questions.

  • Information about 8th grade transitions can be found on the GDRMS counseling website.  This page will be updated during the school year as new dates become available.

  • All 8th grade students who live in Groton have the option of applying to Nashoba Valley Technical High School for 9th grade. 8th grade students who live in Dunstable may apply under school choice, if space permits.  All 8th graders also have the opportunity to go visit and tour Nashoba Valley Technical High School with parent permission on Thursday, October 27th (more details in the permission slip).

Grade 5:

Ask your 5th grade student if they enjoyed the visit from Norah Dooley, Storyteller/Author this past week.  I had the opportunity to observe some of the presentation in Mr. Klock’s and Ms. Solitro’s class.  Students were very enthusiastic and engaged.

All Families:

The  Middle School room at the Twomey Center is accepting  new  students. There was a glitch in the online  registration and it appears that they are  full, but they are not.

  • Interested parents can contact Stasia at sknight@gdrsd.org,  or Megan   Mmastroianni@gdrsd.org

or by calling   (978) 448-0398.

  • We also have Homework Club and Book Study Club starting later in the month.

New after school activity:

The Middle School is excited to announce a new after-school program "Building Friendships Through Sports."  The program will run from October through May and was developed to help students of all skill levels build relationships, expand social skills and have some fun, all while learning sports skills.   The first session runs from October 18th through November 18, 2022 and includes basketball and/or mini-golf.  For details, please go to https://www.gdrsd.org/page/athletics and click on "Register Now".
