Growth Mindset

Hello Middle School families.  I hope you have a great long weekend.  In planning your week ahead please be reminded that we have no school on Monday 10/10 and Tuesday 10/11 is a district Professional Development day.  We will see your students back here on Wednesday 10/12.

The pictures attached to this week's memo are from a 5th grade Advisory.  Growth Mindset is so important at any age but especially middle school.

Grades 5:

On October 13th and 14th, the MSPTO is sponsoring a visit from Norah Dooley to each of the 5th grade classes. She will bring her Storytelling Workshop to each of the groups. Here is her bio from the Young Audiences Arts for Learning (YAMA) website: "Norah Dooley is a storyteller, critically acclaimed children’s author and educator and the founder of a story slam series in Greater Boston. Norah’s widely acclaimed picture book, Everybody Cooks Rice is one of four titles in a series about her former neighborhood in Cambridge, MA. She specializes in teaching people of all ages how important their stories are and how to tell them."

New after school activity:

The Middle School is excited to announce a new after-school program "Building Friendships Through Sports."  The program will run from October through May and was developed to help students of all skill levels build relationships, expand social skills and have some fun, all while learning sports skills.   The first session runs from October 18th through November 18, 2022 and includes basketball and/or mini-golf.  For details, please go to https://www.gdrsd.org/page/athletics and click on "Register Now".

Believe it or not I have already received inquiries about Basketball tryouts.  These will be held the Monday after Thanksgiving.

MSPTO:

We have wrapped up the book fair and thanks to all of you the MSPTO was able to raise about $3,000.00.  Thank you.  If you have not had the opportunity to donate to our One and Done fundraiser here is the link, MSPTO One and DoneIf you are interested in hearing more about our PTO our joining our team please email the PTO at gdrmspto17@gmail.com
