Family memo

Hello Middle School families.  It’s a confetti moment.  School is just around the corner.  We  hope you enjoyed your dog days of summer.

Hopefully this memo will calm all of those last minute jitters.  We had our first staff meeting and the teachers are excited.  Refreshed and ready to welcome your children.

Schedules:

We have printed schedules for all of your children.  We will spend time in Advisory going over and reviewing schedules with your children.  We have created templates for your children to use as well.  The teachers are ready for this.

Book Fair:

We will be holding a book fair on September 19-22.  Be on the lookout for more information from our Middle School PTO.  We will be looking for volunteers to help set up and sell books.

Friday is a half day:

Dismissal is at 11:30.  I am waiting to hear from the bus company about allowing students to ride a friend's bus home from school.

Buses:

When your child arrives at school from the bus there will be staff outside directing your children in the right direction.

Drop Off:

Remember if you drop your student off at school there is a plan.  You follow the tree line and go behind the North building and the PTYC and drop off behind the North gym.  There will be adults there.

Reminders:

Middle School Play:

This coming Fall, the Drama Club, in conjunction with Groton-Dunstable Community Education, will be holding auditions for Matilda Jr.   Auditions will be held on September 12 and 13, and are open to all Middle school students. Registration will be open the first week in September. Rehearsals will be held Monday through Friday after school in the PAC, and will culminate in performances on November 18 and 19.  Matilda Jr will involve lots of hard work, excellent collaboration, and an enjoyable show! Please contact Lorien Corbelletti with any questions at lcorbelletti@gdrsd.org.

Chromebooks GDRMS is a 1-1 chromebook school.  I am including some new language that can be found in our handbook.  The reason for this is that there was a significant amount of breakage in the middle school last year.  Please review this updated language with your student.  We will also be reviewing this language during our first week of school with your student. Students will be asked to sign a google form acknowledging that they will be careful with their devices.

5th grade:

  • All 5th grade students will meet in the PAC upon arrival on day one.  Their teachers will call them by roster and bring them to their Advisory class.  The 5th grade students will start the first 6 weeks of school in an Advisory class with a team teacher with the IA teachers supporting the teams.  After the first 6 weeks students will separate out into smaller groups

6th grade :

  • All 6th grade students will meet in the South Gym upon arrival.  Their teachers will call them by roster and bring them to their Advisory class.
