Family Memo

Good Afternoon Groton Dunstable Regional Middle School Families.  We hope you and your students had a great week. Here is your weekly family memo.

On Tuesday 10/27 and Wednesday 10/28 our 5th grade students will have the opportunity to see Robin Hu during their social studies classes. Ms. Hu will provide a demonstration of wool spinning and speak about its significance in Colonial America with regard to economic self-sufficiency, political resistance, and independence from Britain.  Students will gain knowledge from this hands-on experience by being able to observe and use a spinning wheel, wool carders, and handheld spinning tops while being presented with a narrated slideshow presentation about the history and importance of wool spinning in the colonies, focusing on laws and women’s roles in addition to daily colonial life. Thank you to the Groton Trust.

Counseling Corner: Tips for Asking Students About Their School Day

We know it can be challenging! emoji

Sometimes, “How was school?” is just too easy to answer with a simple “fine.” Kids don't always know how to explain what happened during their day, especially when something is embarrassing, confusing, upsetting, or even surprisingly wonderful.

Sometimes they just need a question that gives them a little more room to talk. Try these questions instead:

  • What made you laugh today?

  • Who did you sit with at lunch?

  • What was the hardest part of your day?

  • Did anything surprise you today?

  • Did anyone do something kind for you today?
