Hello Middle School families. I hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend. This is typically the weekend that kicks off summer. YAY!!!
Some reminders about summer days at school. Our classrooms can get pretty hot. Just a reminder to have your students bring their own water bottles as we do not have bottled water in the office.
Sunscreen, particularly our grades 5 & 6 students. PE is outside a lot with Mr. Coronis and they may need sunscreen to prevent sunburns.
MCAS- we finished our all school Math MCAS this week. Again, thank you for your partnership with having your kids in school. It is such a big help when appointments are not scheduled on these days and all students are in school. Next week grade 8 is taking CIVICS.
4th grade families, Our music department did a presentation at the elementary schools this past Monday. Ms. Jarvis and Mr. O’Donohue should be sending out a form for you to enter your child’s request for music. Every student takes either General Music, Band, or Chorus. If your child is on an IEP or receives other services they may not have space for a music class. We must give all students PE/Health and then we work from there. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to myself or Mr. Day. Here is the link to fill out. Please have this completed by Wednesday June 3rd. Thank you
8th grade families : Do you have a soon to be 9th grader that is receiving special education services through an IEP? Join High School Special Education Team Chairs, Vanessa Black and Meghan Maloney-Perez for a High School Special Education Info Session at GDRHS (703 Chicopee Row, Groton, MA 01450) on Thursday, May 28th at 4:30pm.
Lunch - For next year DESE has announced that schools need to provide lunch on ½ days. Please be on the lookout for more information. This will be a meal that must be ordered ahead of time for students to pick up and take to class.

Counseling Corner:
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. We want to remind you that seeking help for mental health issues is a sign of great strength, not a sign of weakness!
We want to challenge everybody to practice some extra self-care this month. Self-care for mental health involves intentionally engaging in activities to maintain emotional, psychological, and social well-being, reducing stress, and managing difficult emotions. It is a proactive, daily practice of setting boundaries, nurturing oneself, and prioritizing mental health to increase resilience. Check out our May 2026 Self-Care Challenge Here!
Here are a couple of other resources to help take care of your mental health this month and every month:
Informational Video - Information about how to find community-based mental health care from Care Solace.
GDRMS Counseling Calming Room- Here you can find a variety of interactive resources designed to help calm your body and mind.
