Hello Middle School families. Happy New Year! Hope you had a great break.
We had the privilege of having Rob Surette from Amazing Hero Art at school today. It was wonderful. Thank you to the Groton Trust. Ask your children about it. They were so engaged. You can see pictures on our livefeed and the GDRMS facebook page.
The Prescot Center asked that we share some opportunities for our Middle School students.

The Prescott Community Center offers a safe, supportive homework help program for students in grades 5–8 on Mondays from 4:00–5:00 PM and Wednesdays from 5:00–6:00 PM. Girls in STEM - Grades 5-8
Fridays, Jan 23, Feb 6, Feb 27, Mar 13, 4:00-6:00 PM
This workshop introduces middle school girls to STEM through fun, hands-on activities that build creativity, problem-solving skills, and confidence. Students will take part in beginner-friendly engineering challenges like popsicle-stick bridges and paper towers, try simple coding and logic puzzles, and explore electricity by creating basic circuits with batteries and LEDs. Team-based projects promote communication, leadership, and collaboration, while short discussions highlight real women in STEM to help students connect their skills to future opportunities in fields like engineering, computer science, architecture, and technology. No experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to experiment—and all materials will be provided. By the end, participants will gain practical STEM skills, enjoy hands-on learning, and feel inspired to explore STEM in school and beyond.
