Family Memo

Hello Middle School families.  I hope you have a great long weekend. These are some pictures from our 5th grade visit to Florence Roche.  We will be going to Swallow Union on June 2.

We are excited for our Semester 2 Art show and grade 8 concert this coming Tuesday.

Please take a look at our PTO update.  The PTO is so important to our middle school.

It's back!!! Our annual day at the park is returning, so be sure to get your tickets now!

  • All middle school students (and their families) are welcome to enjoy Canobie Lake Park on June 19. Tickets are available for purchase here and on our website through June 8. Ticket pick up will be at the middle school on June 13 and June 16 from 2:30p-4:30p.

  • As a reminder, this is not a supervised event. Please coordinate chaperones for your child as GDMS PTO will not be chaperoning or coordinating chaperones for any students.

  • PTO Board

At the May General Meeting, the GDMS PTO voted in the 2025-2026 Executive Board, which is as follows:

  • Rebecca Weksner, President

  • Elizabeth Bulger, Secretary

  • Stacey Shreiber, Volunteer Coordinator

  • Our PTO is currently without a Treasurer or Special Events Chair. These are important roles for our board and we would really love to have you join us! The time commitment is minimal for those roles, so if you have interest, please reach out to get more information!

I wanted to share that the Groton-Dunstable HS and MS Best Buddies clubs had a great time and raised a lot of money at the friendship walk last Saturday. The  HS team raised the most money of any group in Central MA!  The high school students are great role models for our middle school students.  You will see a handful of middle schoolers in the pictures attached.    The messaging was clear -Best Buddies wants to put an end to the loneliness and isolation experienced by people with disabilities. Thank you to Ms. Blydenburgh and Ms. Faro for running our Middle School chapter.  If you have any questions or your child would like to join please do not hesitate to reach out.

As our school year is winding down please settle any charges for broken chrome books or missing library books before June 17th.   Please look around your house for any books that may need to be returned to our libraries.

Reminders:

The Groton Channel offers internships to rising 9th grade students.  Please see this flyer.

We will be having our 1st annual  Senior walk at the Middle School on Tuesday May 27th between 10:30 -11:30.  The seniors from GD high school will be marching through our two buildings.  The high school hopes to make this a new tradition. What this means for you is that if you are looking to dismiss at this time you may need to arrive early or plan for a little bit of a delay.

From our tech department:We want to raise your awareness of a trend on social media (especially TikTok) where students are encouraged to insert objects like paperclips or pencil leads into Chromebook ports. This can result in electrical hazards, severe device damage, and safety risks. Mr. Callahan has connected with a few local districts that have already been impacted, and they have confirmed it’s real and causing damage.

  • Teachers will be on alert and if you could have a conversation with your child that would be great. Your partnership is very important in these instances.  Some things to remind your students…

  • School devices are for learning; tampering is dangerous.

  • Malicious damage leads to disciplinary action, per school handbooks.

  • Participation in harmful online trends can carry consequences.
