Hello Middle School families. Wishing all the Moms a Happy Mother’s Day. I hope you have a great weekend. Grades 6&7 are done with MCAS… YAY for them. Next week we have grades 5&8 Science.
Some art work from the 5th grade hall. I just love when I notice new work in the halls. Live Life in Color was a 5th grade writing assignment to create poems. The Best Part of our Fifth Grade Year was just for fun.

From our tech department:We want to raise your awareness of a trend on social media (especially TikTok) where students are encouraged to insert objects like paperclips or pencil leads into Chromebook ports. This can result in electrical hazards, severe device damage, and safety risks. Mr. Callahan has connected with a few local districts that have already been impacted, and they have confirmed it’s real and causing damage.
Teachers will be on alert and if you could have a conversation with your child that would be great. Your partnership is very important in these instances. Some things to remind your students…
School devices are for learning; tampering is dangerous.
Malicious damage leads to disciplinary action, per school handbooks.
Participation in harmful online trends can carry consequences.

Memorial Day Parade: We had a community member reach out to see if we had any students or student groups that would be interested in marching in the Groton Memorial Day Parade on May 26th at 9:00am representing the district. Does your child wish to participate?
The students would need at least one adult to supervise them during the parade, but otherwise there are no requirements/limitations. In the past students have done things like ride their bikes through the parade or played instruments and the theme is of course patriotic so any ideas are welcome. Please let me know if your child would like to participate.
School Council
We had our last School Council meeting on May 5 th and while we wish we had accomplished more we did get the OAK Awards off the ground and we are looking ahead to creating a student council next year. We may be looking for more parents who may want to be on the council next year. I am currently looking to see if there are any more teachers who may want to join the team. Typically our meetings are Mondays from 2:45-3:45 in the Stoddart conference room. If this is something you may be interested in please let me know.
