Family Memo

Hello Middle School families. I hope you have a great weekend.

We only have two topics highlighted this week: the first is our Chromebooks and breakage.

Chromebooks,  we are spending a lot of time and money repairing chromebooks.  If you refer to our middle school handbook, page 23, Section 7

  • General Chromebook Precautions ● No food or drink should be near the Chromebooks. ● Heavy objects should never be placed on top of Chromebooks. ● Always transport Chromebooks with care. ● Never lift Chromebooks by the screen. ● Never carry Chromebooks with the screen open. ● Care should be taken when plugging and unplugging charging cables.

  • Chromebook Screen Care The Chromebook screen can be damaged if subjected to heavy objects, rough treatment, certain cleaning solvents, and other liquids. ● Do not put pressure on the top of a Chromebook when it is closed. ● Do not store a Chromebook with the screen open. ● Ensure there is nothing on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g., pens, pencils, erasers, papers, hands, etc.).

  • Student Expectations for Chromebooks Student supplies such as textbooks and Chromebooks are very important to student learning but costly to the district. It is the policy of the district that the cost of textbooks that are damaged or lost must be covered by parents. The same policy is in place for Chromebooks. Any damage that makes a Chromebook in need of repair or unusable may require parents to reimburse the district for this expense, at the discretion of building administration. The cost of repairs is usually between $25 - $50. The cost of a Chromebook, which must be replaced due to loss or extreme damage, is $250. Parents who 24 believe reimbursement would be a financial hardship for their families should contact their student’s principal.

  • Depending on the breakage we have been charging families 75.00 for a screen.  These repairs need to be done off grounds.

Please know that all families are going to be charged if your student’s chromebook gets broken.  We do understand that accidents happen.  However, even with an accident things have to be paid for.  If your child plays field hockey and their stick breaks a new stick needs to be purchased for your child to play.  The district can not continue to accrue this expense.
