Family memo

Hello Middle School families. I hope you had a great week.

Open house was a success. We hope you felt the same way.

I would like to give a huge shout out to our Middle School PTO.  They have been working really hard with the book fair and next week they will be at Groton Fest.

New Information:

PTO:

  • Annual Fundraising Campaign

Each year, the GDMS PTO runs a campaign to raise funds for the school year and beyond. All funds raised are integral to our mission to support the well-rounded educational experience of students and staff at the middle school. We appreciate any and all support. Thank you!

  • Groton Fest - Stop by our booth at Groton Fest to chat with the principal, have your face painted, play games, and take a chance on winning some amazing prizes. Groton Fest is on Saturday, September 30, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Our booth is located on School Street. We hope to see you there!

  • Book Fair, was a great success.  So many parents came out during the Open House and filled the teacher's wish lists.  Thank you for that.

  • Driving on Campus,  It has been brought to the attention of the Middle School Admin that adults are driving really fast around the back of our North Building down near the Twomey Center.  As a reminder if you are coming to pick up your child or if you are coming to an athletic event please drive with caution.  The Twomey center does after school care for a significant number of Flo Ro families and there are little children down there.  Thank you.

  • Bus Evacuation,  If your student rides the bus Dee bus is running bus evacuation drills on Thursday 9/28.

8th Grade:

  • For all 8th grade parents - On September 26th, a representative from Nashoba Valley Technical High School will be presenting options to all 8th graders.  For families who are interested in learning more, you are invited to attend Nashoba Tech's open house.  Registration is required to attend.

  • For more information about 8th grade transitions, please refer to the GDRMS counseling department website. Dates will be updated throughout the year regarding visits and deadlines.

Old Information:

  • Mosquitos, There was a mosquito that tested positive for West Nile Virus in Ayer.  With our after school events we wanted to remind you….To avoid mosquito bites, use a repellent with an EPA-registered ingredient, wear clothing to reduce exposed skin, drain standing water and repair window screens. Remember that mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk.

From the Health Office:

  • Please complete the Nurse Emergency Card for your students and return the paperwork to their building Health Office   Health card form

  • If your student has an Emergency Care Plan or a Health Care plan please check their backpack for the required annual paperwork. Emails have also been sent. Please reach out to your building nurse if you have any questions.

  • GDRMS Handbook:

Handbook

Please spend some time with your students getting familiar with our handbook.

Middle School Core Values.  Please talk with your students about these words.  Use them at home.

Ownership, Own your space, Own your learning, Own your behavior.

Awareness, Be aware of yourself and others, Be aware of your surroundings, and Be aware of your impact.
