Family memo

Hello Middle School Families,  I hope you had a great weekend.

This will be my last memo for this school year.  I will be sending out information over the summer as I get it.  I work most of the summer and will check emails and voicemails if you need me for anything please feel free to reach out @ wsalvatore@gdrsd.org

I want you all to know that I am grateful to be your middle school principal.  I have had a great second year.   I feel like I knew more this year than last and I was able to move a few things forward.  We started an Advisory Program and we have new Core Values, Ownership, Awareness and Kindness, and we had field trips this year.  These are confetti moments for me.

Next year some of my goals will be a School Council and a Student Council.

We will be bidding farewell to a number of teachers this year.  Karyn Copland, Clare O’Neill, Alina Spaulding, Dorothy Dwyer, Dave Robinson and Robin Dalton are all retiring. Holly LaFave, Kristin Buckley and Vinny DeStefano who will be starting new adventures outside of GD.   We wish them all the best in the future.

  • June is the start of Pride Month! As a middle school, we’ve had many conversations about what community looks, feels, and sounds like. Many students have shared that a community should feel safe, supportive, joyful, and inclusive. This month, and every month, it is important to make sure that our middle school follows through on these expectations for the LGBTQ+ community. We should always celebrate, highlight, share, and listen to LGBTQ+ stories and experiences and create that sense of connectedness and community.

Here are some resources about the celebration of pride and for folks who would like some resources geared toward talking with students:

LGBTQ+ Community Resources

GLSEN, Welcoming Schools, and the Trevor Project have great resources!

Sincerely your Groton Dunstable Regional Middle School Principal, Wendy Salvatore
