MESSAGE FROM STEPHEN SIERPINA

I hope everyone had a good week back after the long weekend. It is hard to believe that we are already into the month of December with the holidays right around the corner. The students and staff continue to work hard, both in and out of the classroom and I am constantly impressed with what I see happening.

I understand that there has been some conversation via social media regarding the high school banning student cell phones. While there has been discussion regarding the increased use of cell phones during class, there are no plans to ban student cell phones. The policy has not changed and classroom use is still at the teacher’s discretion. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school. Thank you and have a great weekend.

PEER LEADERS/SEVEN HILLS GIFT GIVING

The peer leaders will be sponsoring the Seven Hills gift giving effort again this year.  Last year we were able to provide many gifts for the residents of Seven Hills. Students, faculty and staff were generous in their support. There is a fireplace with mitten shaped gift tags hanging on it available throughout the day in the front commons. This year there will be a focus on giving books specifically chosen books to each resident.

If you take a tag, please record the number on the tag and your name on the sign-up sheet.  All gifts are to be returned wrapped or in a gift bag with the tag attached to it. Gifts should be brought in before Monday December 19th as they will be delivered on this day.  Gifts should be delivered to room 124, Mrs. Erickson’s room. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Erickson at jerickson@gdrsd.org   Thanks for your support!

The World of Difference and the Class of 2023 are partnering up to bring August to GDRHS!

August is a brand of sustainable, inclusive, and affordable period products. For the next month, until January 17th, we will pilot the use of these FREE products in the girl's bathroom across from the gym, the gender neutral bathroom in hallway 2A and faculty bathroom in hallway LC to gauge need and collect feedback. Sponsored by the class of 2023, we plan to extend these products into all bathrooms in the following months. Free products are always available in the nurse's bathroom as well.

BAE SYSTEMS FOCUS PROGRAM

BAE Systems will be offering another session of their FOCUS Program beginning in January 2023. FOCUS is an 11-week in person program which provides hands-on experiences in STEM fields to help grow students' interest in technical education and careers.

The program takes place at BAE Systems Nashua Canal Street facility from January 11 through March 22. Students will participate on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m.

Students in grades 9 – 12 from schools within a reasonable driving distance from Southern New Hampshire are welcome to apply for the program through December 13, 2022. Our application is hosted on Tallo: https://app.tallo.com/application/8677/view   (note: students will need to create a Tallo profile to apply, this is easy and free and compliant with NH student privacy standards).

You can learn more about FOCUS on our website: www.baesystems.com/focus

Questions may be directed to our program team via focus.nashua@baesystems.com or to Laurel Skiff, Pre and Early Career program manager.
