PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
This week was a great example of how vibrant our co-curricular activities are at GD. After school, the commons and locker rooms were flooded with students preparing and waiting for their club, group, team, or activity. All of these students were contributing to the school, outside the classroom and embracing our mantra, “Don’t let your day end at 2!”. We know that students who participate in anything outside of school helps “lower the temperature” and provides students with opportunities to build relationships and self-esteem. We will continue to encourage students to be self-advocates and support them in challenging themselves.
We had team practices and games, Unified Basketball practices, play rehearsals, and clubs meeting throughout the building which all create a positive energy for anyone walking on campus. Add to that, the number of spectators who come to cheer on our students in the many contests that took place and we have a campus that is buzzing with energy and excitement.
We just passed the midway point for the first term. It has been a blur and the students and staff are now settling into relative routines. Please check SchoolBrains if you are curious about the progress of your student(s) and reach out to teachers if you have questions.
Please Note: If students are attending tonight’s football game at Greater Lawrence, they will need to bring a school ID with them in order to enter unless they are accompanied by an adult.
To the players, actors, students, fans, parents, coaches, referees, directors, advisors and staff, I thank you and everyone else for providing opportunities for our students to grow beyond the classroom!
Sincerely,
Rick Arena
