Amazing Animal Presentations!

November 18, 2022

Dear Florence Roche Families,

As we get closer to the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to be sure to acknowledge all that I appreciate about our school community.  Every day, I appreciate the energy and wonder our students bring during these formative years of their development.  I was reflecting on this while observing our kindergartners transition out of the cafe, up the stairwell and into the hallway heading back to class.  Each one demonstrating their own unique style while following the known expectation for respectful and responsible hallway travel.  This simple action and observation always makes me smile.  Every day, I appreciate our amazing staff and the variety of roles each person takes on in support of our collective goal of helping all students succeed.  Every day, I appreciate you, our committed families, in your partnership with us.  My hope is that everyone enjoys the company of family and friends during the holiday and we all take time to appreciate what is important to us.

We certainly appreciate our community partnership with the Groton Fire Department.  This week the Groton FD visited classrooms and taught our students about fire safety in the home.  Ask your student about this experience and how they can be a responsible family member in an emergency situation.  Thank you to the firefighters for coming in to work with us and for Ms. Kinneen for coordinating their schedule.

A note from Ms. Kinneen regarding the recently completed sneaker drive…

In just two short weeks the Florence Roche community donated over 35 pairs of sneakers to the FloRo Phys Ed Sneaker Drive!  Fourth Grade Phys Ed Leaders were on hand to support the efforts and worked to prepare the donations to be transported to The Wish Project in Chelmsford, MA.  Our 4th graders helped out by unpacking and sorting the donations and also getting them ready for the drop off.  A heartfelt thanks to all of the FloRo students, families and staff members who helped to make our first Phys Ed Sneaker Drive a success!

It’s time for a Coffee Talk!

Our literacy team is hosting a parent/guardian coffee on November 29th from 9:00-10:00am.  This is your opportunity to get to know our reading specialists and the work they do to support early literacy development at Florence Roche.  The team is looking forward to sharing ways they can support you with strategies for literacy development at home.

Although pre registration is not necessary to attend, it would be helpful for planning purposes if parents/guardians could take a moment to RSVP for the event.

As a reminder…

If your student did not have their picture taken on 10/6, the photographer will be back on 11/29 for make ups and any desired retakes.  Please follow the instructions on your student’s photo envelope for any retake requests.  Contact the office if you have any questions.

Please remember that next Wednesday is an early release day with student dismissal beginning at 12:05pm.  The Twomey Center will not be open for after school childcare on Wednesday, November 23rd.  Please make any necessary arrangements for your child.

I hope you all have an enjoyable holiday!
