Dear Florence Roche Families,

Our school and classrooms are busy these first days with students learning routines and expectations as an important part of each new school year.  This year, we are introducing our students to core values that will guide us through all of our work.  The staff went through a process that began last spring to identify these core values.  We asked the question, what are your expectations in these (classroom, playground, hallway, cafe) settings?  Teams of educators brainstormed positive behavior expectations for each of these areas.  Our next step was to look for themes that emerged from each group's input.  What core values did we need to have in place that would support students in their positive academic and social development across these settings?  During our opening staff meeting, we agreed on the 3R’s of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience to be the core values that guide our work.  This is exciting work and I am already hearing educators using this language in their classroom discussions.  We invite you to share in this work and reinforce the values of respect, responsibility and resilience in connection with our work in school.  Stay tuned for our progress updates throughout the school year

.

Parents and guardians are invited to attend the special town meeting scheduled for Monday, September 12th at 7:00pm in the middle school south PAC.  This meeting is to inform community members about the status of our new school building project and where we are currently with the budget.  Your attendance and participation is important.  Childcare is available in the middle school south cafe if needed.  Please respond to the form that went home from the central office if you would like to access the childcare option.  Thank you for your support.

Curriculum Night Reminder!

Our Curriculum Night for grades 2-4 is scheduled for Thursday, September 15th from 6:00-7:15.  Classroom teachers in grades 2-4, specialists, interventionists, special educators and our nurses will be present and available to meet you.  Classroom teachers will share information about the curriculum and their classrooms beginning at 6:15.  At 6:45-7:15, specialists and special educators will be in their rooms to meet you.  As a reminder, this evening is not planned for individual parent conferences.  Those are scheduled for early December.

First grade teachers will host parents and guardians on Monday, September 19th.  Details for this event will be shared by the first grade team.  Our kindergarten team hosted a welcome to school event on August 29th.  The kindergarten team will be sending home general information about the year ahead in the coming week.

Enjoy the weekend,

Brian
