Dear Florence Roche Families,

We honored Memorial Day with an all school assembly this morning.  Major LaBelle spoke to our school community about the significance of Memorial Day and how it is a day to remember the service men and women who gave their lives in support of our freedom.  He touched on 4 important themes including sacrifice, courage, honor and love.  Major LaBelle will also be speaking at the Groton Memorial Day remembrance on Monday.  The Memorial Day Parade begins at 9:00am and will travel down Hollis Street to the Veteran’s Common.  A formal ceremony will follow at Groton Cemetery.

Grade 2 students learned about designing and engineering a building that would withstand the high winds of a hurricane through the Superstructures program.  This hands-on STEM experience required students to stick to a budget and build the strongest structure possible.  Thank you to the Groton Commissioners of Trust for funding this program.

We had a group of former 5th grade students accompanied by Ms. Salvatore, Middle School Principal, visit with our 4th graders this week.  The 5th graders shared about their experience in middle school and answered questions from our students.

Our Girls On The Run chapter finished their community service project this week. With the help of several parents, the team was able to go to 7 Hills Pediatric Hospital in Groton.  The girls distributed their bracelets and presented staff with a colorful mural to hang on a wall.  It was a very impactful experience for all.

I hope everyone has an opportunity for a moment of remembrance during this holiday weekend.
