Dear Florence Roche Families,

We got right back into our school routines after last week’s vacation break.  I am always impressed at this time of year with the amount of growth our students have made.  It is particularly evident in how they transitioned smoothly back to the expectations of school.  This final stretch of the year will pass quickly given our very busy schedule.

The 2nd graders learned about a variety of owls through the Eyes on Owls program.  This experience was highly engaging for both students and adults.  We all learned that many of these owls can be found right here in Groton.  Thank you to our PTA for funding this enrichment activity for our students.  A special thank you to Jillian Doyle for being our PTA point person in the coordination of all of these enrichment programs.

The middle school World of Difference student leaders read to our classrooms this week as part of Neurodiversity Acceptance Week.  The student leaders read books about neurodiversity and the importance of celebrating the many differences that make us all humans with the theme of accepting everyone for who they are.  This meaningful opportunity is intended to foster empathy, understanding, and leadership among our 7th and 8th grade WoD students while also helping to promote awareness, acceptance, and kindness in the early childhood and elementary communities.

Math MCAS Reminder

Our 3rd and 4th graders will be completing the math portion of this year’s MCAS testing during the week of May 12th.  Please remember to have your student to school on time, rested and ready.  We appreciate your support at home.

Our final Principal’s Coffee for the year is scheduled for Monday, May 5th at 9:00am in our cafe.  Middle School Principal, Wendy Salvatore and Middle School Assistant Principal, Michael Day will be our special guests.  Ms. Salvatore and Mr. Day will share information about the transition to middle school for our 4th grade families and anyone else interested in hearing about this process.

WELCOME 4TH GRADE FAMILIES

Hello grade 4 families.  My name is Wendy Salvatore, and I will be your Groton Dunstable Regional Middle School Principal.  I can’t wait to meet all of you and your students in the coming weeks.  Mr. Day, our grade 5-6 assistant principal, and I have been busy scheduling our elementary school visits and planning with the teachers what your 4th grader’s visit to the middle school will look, feel and sound like with our transition team.  We hope they and you are just as excited as we are.  Below please find some important information for the transition.

Family Coffees with Ms Salvatore and Mr Day:

  • May 5 at 9:00 p.m. at Flo Ro Cafe

  • May 9 at 9:00 a.m. at Swallow Union Elementary School

  • Zoom Meeting, Thursday May 8th at 6:30

4th Grade Classroom Visits:

  • We will be visiting The Florence Roche Elementary School on Tuesday May 20th during 4th grade lunch and then do classroom visits for more opportunities to ask questions.

  • We will be visiting Swallow Union on Wednesday May 21st in the afternoon.

4th Grade Middle School Tours: We are welcoming your students to The Stoddart building on Monday June 9th, during the school day with their current 4th grade teachers and class. (Rain date June 10th) Our 4th and 5th grade teachers are currently working on what this will look, feel and sound like.

Hopes & Dreams: We value your experiences with your child and the hopes you have for them as a learner and as a person. Please come to our parent breakfasts with your hopes and dreams for your student.  We will have a fun activity for you to participate in as a way for us to get to learn more about your child.

Yardsticks: At our parent information event, we will have a copy of the grade 5 yardstick for all of you.  Yardstick is a child developmental pamphlet that explains what to expect from your 5th grade student.  Helping children grow and learn starts with understanding their development.

Parent Input Feedback Form: We are beginning the very important process of class placement for next year.  We value your perspective and input on the growth of your child. We encourage you to respond to the questions included with this letter.  We are confident that together we will place your child in the most appropriate environment for their learning success.

Looking forward to meeting and working with you.

Ms. Salvatore, your Middle School Principal and Mr. Day your 5th and 6th grade Middle School Assistant Principal
