Super Structures!

April 14, 2023

Dear Florence Roche Families,

Happy upcoming school vacation week!  Our students and staff survived the unseasonably warm temperatures over these past couple of days. We are all looking forward to resting and recharging in the hopes of returning to more spring-like weather.  I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable break from school.

Our grades 3 and 4 students worked hard during their scheduled MCAS assessments this week.  With the exception of some make up sessions, the ELA assessments are complete.  We will administer the math MCAS assessments during the week of 5/15.

Grade 2 students learned about the engineering and design process through the Super Structures enrichment program.  Students built structures with the goal of withstanding extreme weather elements.  Thank you to the Groton Commissioners of Trusts for funding this experience.

April is Autism Acceptance Month! Our community SEPAC has been awesome in sending resources and advocating for events. We discussed Autism Acceptance Week and we are excited to let you know that we will be doing so the week of April 24th through the 28th! Here is a flier describing the week, providing information, and showing where you can learn more: Autism Acceptance Week.png

The recent clothing drive was a success.  Florence Roche supported Cradles to Crayons by collecting 30 bags!  Thank you to our Middle School Ambassadors for leading this successful event and for all of you for your donations.

GD is partnering with both the Groton and Dunstable police departments on Saturday, April 29 to host our second annual bike rodeo at GDRHS from 9a-1p.  There will be a representative from MABikes conducting safety sessions for students preK-4 all day.  Students will have the opportunity to bike through an obstacle course!  We will be doing helmet fittings and giving away free helmets and bike lights for kids.  The police officers will be talking about safety as well as having meet and greets with the kids.  Last but not least, both PE teachers from the district will be assisting with the entire event.  It is sure to be a great day!

Last Call for Class Placement and Parent Input - Due by 4/24/23

We will be starting our class placement for 2023-2024 in early May.  As part of that process, we collect parent input as well.  You know your child best and can provide us with helpful information.  Please share your input on the Parent Placement Input form linked here.  You can either print it out and send in a hard copy to the office or make a copy of the form and email it directly to me, bodonoghue@gdrsd.org.  Please remember that individual teacher requests will not be honored.  The form has specific questions for you to respond to.  Your input is due by 4/24/23.

Have a nice vacation week!

Brian
