Honk Jr.

March 17, 2023

Dear Florence Roche Families,

We had fun celebrating St. Patrick’s day around the building today.  There was a lot of green on display.  There were also signs of a mysterious visitor in our kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms this morning.  I wonder who it was?

Congratulations to our talented cast of Honk Jr.!  They performed 3 memorable shows for family and friends last weekend.  Their hard work, practice and teamwork all paid off in a very successful show.

Thank you to those of you who already completed the school council survey on family engagement.  The link shared in last week’s update was not working initially.  The link is now live and the survey can be accessed.  If you were not able to provide your input last week, we would greatly appreciate your time to complete it this week.  Thank you!i

School Council - Family Engagement Survey

Do you have some time available in the middle of the day?  Are you looking to add some excitement to your daily routine?  If “Yes!” is your answer, then do I have an opportunity for you.  We are currently looking for some volunteers to help out in our cafe from 11:00-1:30.  You could come in for a day or more.  Whatever works in your schedule.  If you are interested in a paid position during these hours, please email me, bodonoghue@gdrsd.org, and I can provide you with the details.

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming the week of March 27th.  The linked flier has all of the details including when your student’s class will be visiting the book fair.  Thank you to the PTA for coordinating this event for our students.

Two of our middle school students are coordinating a clothing drive as 8th grade ambassadors to Project 351.  This is a statewide service campaign led by middle schoolers in support of Cradles to Crayons.  Every ambassador will collect clothing at a host site.  Our ambassadors will be collecting clothing at Florence Roche, Swallow Union, and Maple Village Preschool. They will be collecting clothing from March 27-31.  Look for our collection box in the front lobby of the school.

Trivia Night!

GDEF's Annual Trivia Night is Saturday, March 25th, 8:00-9:30 pm. Hosted for the 4th year by Trivia Brothers, it's sure to be a fun challenge! The event is virtual so teams of up to 8 players can log in separately or gather to play together- your choice! Tickets are $20 per person.  Funds raised from Trivia Night go directly back to the Groton-Dunstable community as grants for innovative educational experiences in all five district schools. For more information and to buy tickets go to https://www.gdefinc.org/tnp

In addition, GDEF has partnered with Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza (201 Constitution Ave, Littleton, MA) on Saturday March 25, 2023, from 11:30 am-10:00 pm. Mention GDEF when you dine in or take out and 20% of your meal’s price is donated back to GDEF!  https://www.groupraise.com/events/241164

So on March 25th, have fun playing trivia, enjoy pizza from Anthony’s, or do both- all while helping GDEF raise money to grant to our school community!

Have a nice weekend.
