Prescott Parent Organization (PPO)
June 2008

There have been a number of end of the year programs celebrating the final year
of Prescott School. Some of the highlights are described below.
Odaiko New England - Taiko Drummers
On Tuesday, June 3, the students at Prescott School had the opportunity to witness the
amazing Japanese drumming talents of the Odaiko drummers. Students watched the two drummers who demonstrated Japanese taiko drumming. Prescott students learned about the instruments and the history of taiko in Japanese culture. This event was fully funded by the PPO as an uplifting experience for all.
Celebration of Penguins
As a final celebration of the Prescott mascot, 3rd and 4th graders were treated to a field trip to the New England Aquarium on Tuesday, May 27. A visit from the New England Aquarium’s Rockhopper Hop program is scheduled for grades K-2 on Monday, June 16. In this interactive program, students will use activity kits, masks and music. Students will also turn an Aquarium staff member into a giant rockhopper penguin!
Final Treasurer’s Report
This year the enrichment donations and School Store/Holiday Boutique earnings were used to fund a $300.00 allotment for each classroom teacher, and $100.00 for each specialist. Funds were also used to provide the intramurals program, the Fall Festival, Bubbleology Program, The Odaiko Drummers, portions of Winter Carnival and the Grandparent Brunch. The majority of the remaining funds supplied all the activities at the Endless Summer BBQ. Through careful planning there is a small amount of money remaining that will fund portions of field day, including the ice cream bar traditionally served by the PPO to the students during recess.
Thank you to the volunteers who help the PPO events throughout the year!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the following volunteers who have taken extra time out of their busy schedule to help with key PPO activities:
Maureen N. and Tina R. worked all year to keep the School Store open every Thursday during lunch. They have anticipated the needs and desires of the students and the teachers and have done a wonderful job.
Thank you to Karen G., Maureen N. and Barb K.t for coordinating the Scholastic Book Fair that the students attend during the fall and spring. Thank you for keeping the fair running smoothly.
Christine H., Line M. and Lisa M. organized the Holiday Boutique this year. Thanks to the many other moms who hosted crafting sessions as well.
Goodbye and Hello
As the final days of Prescott draw to a close, the PPO board would like to say Goodbye and Thank You for all of the help you have provided for the numerous activities that we have enjoyed so much. There will be many more opportunities to get involved in the school you will be moving on to next whether it is Florence Roche, Swallow Union or the Middle School. Bring your spirit and ideas and we wish you all the best saying Hello to your new schools!
