Parent Forum
March 28, 2008
Dear Parent/Guardian:
You are cordially invited to attend an informational forum on Monday, April 14 to hear about some of the exciting initiatives that are taking place at the Middle School. Location: Performing Arts Center
The agenda for this evening is as follows:
7:00 – 7:20 PM Highlights of the 2007-2008 school year
Some of our new initiatives this school year have included the implementation of the co-teaching model, introductory training for staff in differentiated instruction and strengthening partnerships between home and school.
7:20 – 7:45 PM Turning Points 2000
Turning Points 2000 is a comprehensive education reform model that primarily focuses on improving student learning, teaching and assessment. By implementing facets of the Turning Points Model, middle school teachers are coached in best instructional practices geared specifically for the middle-level learner.
7:45 – 8:10 PM Reconfiguration of the Middle School
We are presently exploring the possibility of reconfiguring the middle school to a 5/6 and 7/8 model. Currently our 6th and 7th grade staff and students are divided between two buildings. By reconfiguring the grades, this would enhance teacher collaboration, cross teaming activities, interdisciplinary teaching and grade level cohesiveness. There is substantial research that supports the benefits of having an entire grade level of students and teachers housed in one central location. This reconfiguration would enable us to continue to offer quality middle level programs that are aligned with middle school philosophy.
8:10 – 8:30 PM Question and Answer Period
I hope you will have the opportunity to join us on April 14th. I believe you will find it very informative.
Sincerely,
