Resources for Learning Mathematics

 This page provides a variety of educational websites that parents and students can link to for practicing mathematics at home. A brief description of each website is provided.

ALEKS (Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces) is a Research-Based Online Math Program:

Brainpop provides short, animated movies on a math topic. Each movie is supported by activities such as a quiz, comic strip, experiment and other printable worksheets.  This is subscription-based.
   

Cogito is designed for gifted students to develop their interest in mathematics and science, includes interviews with experts, profiles of young scientists, science news, Web resources, and searchable directories of summer programs, competitions, and other academic opportunities.

   
EduPlace's BrainTeasers website provides a different problem solving activity each week.
   

Figure This! Mathematical Challenges for Families provides a number of challenges in which students can engage in real-life problem solving. There are links to a wealth of information related to the problems.

   

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics has provided a number of online activities, chosen by grade level and standard.

 

   

Math In Daily Life is a chance for students to explore how mathematics plays a role in our daily lives with common situations, such as cooking or buying a car.

 

   

MathMovesU, sponsored by Raytheon Corporation, is intended to inspire middle school students to become more involved in mathematics through stories and activities involving celebrities. 

   

Multiplication.com is a fact-based website to practice multiplication and division facts in lots of different ways!

   

“Need help with algebra?  You’ve found the right place!”  Purplemath includes the following:  algebra lessons, site reviews for useful algebra information, homework guidelines and a study skills self-survey.

   

The National Library of Virtual Mathematics provides students with on-line, interactive tools and tutorials to learn K-12 mathematics.

 

   

The Problem Site is a special problem solving site for both students and adults. Here you will find math problems, word games, word puzzles, mystery quests, and many other free educational resources.

   

Skillswise, sponsored by the BBC, will help you to practice topics involving numbers.  There are fact sheets, worksheets, games, and other activities.

   
Thinking Blocks is a free and interactive math program, helps students learn how to model and solve multi-step word problems by using a combination of guided practice, video instruction, and assessment.
