Parents are asked to make every effort to have their child in school on these days, and on time.  If a student is absent for two (2) or more days, a doctor’s note will be required upon his/her return.  Parents are also asked NOT to make any appointments for students (during school hours) during the MCAS testing period.  If a student is dismissed during a test session (unless he/she is sent home ill), he/she will not be able to have additional time to finish it.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

WHAT CAN PARENTS DO?

  1. Stress the importance of the MCAS tests to your child.
  2. Since the testing period is extensive – make sure your child gets the proper amount of rest and sleep during the testing period.
  3. Attendance is very important.  There will be make-up times built in, however, extended absences will mean longer testing periods.
  4. Encourage your child to have a well-balanced breakfast each morning of the testing session.

WHEN WILL YOU KNOW THE RESULTS?

Individual student and school results will be made available during the fall of 2008.

HOW WILL THE RESULTS BE USED?

The results will be used to:

  1. Measure the performance of individual students, schools, and districts based on the state standards outlined in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
  2. Raise student achievement
  3. Improve classroom instruction
  4. Determine whether students meet the passing standard in English Language Arts and mathematics to earn a competency determination, one condition for receiving a high school diploma.

WHO DO I CALL IF I HAVE A QUESTION?

Mr. Steven M. Silverman, Principal
