What makes High School different from Middle School?
High school brings many changes – some very obvious, like the change in bus pickup times, and others that may not be quite so obvious, especially to parents who are not in the building all day every day!
-
Students are expected to be more responsible. When homework is handed in late, the student may not receive full credit. The program of studies lists the grading policy for late work.
-
Students have more opportunities to fill leadership roles, in both pre-designated environments such as the student council and ad hoc environments, such as preparing for a pep rally or leading an after- school activity. Between freshman and senior years at the high school, activities are progressively more student-led and less teacher/parent initiated.
-
The student stress level may be higher in high school than middle school as students realize that their school work and activities in high school will form the basis on which prospective colleges will consider them for admission.
-
The guidance department plays a larger role in the student life – from scheduling and personal counseling to college and career preparation.
Classes use block scheduling!
