Course Description
World History II is a
required course in which the portrayal of the history of man is traced from
the French Revolution to the Modern Era. Students are exposed to a number of
civilizations, cultures and states and the contributions of each in terms of
history, geography, economics, and government. Techniques employed to
reinforce the lecture series are many and varied to meet the needs of a
diverse group of learners. Visual aids, writing, debates, group work,
projects, and films are employed as the situation warrants.
Evaluation
-
Tests (40%) - Tests will be
administered at the end of each unit. The format of exams will vary
throughout the year. If you are absent on the day of a test you are

-
Major Research (20%) - At least two
major projects will be required, which will be explained in great detail
when the time permits.
-
Quizzes (15%) - Quizzes will occur
frequently to assess knowledge on a smaller scope than exams. Always be
prepared for them. You may use your homework and notebooks for quizzes.
Not your textbook .If you are absent on the day of a quiz you are
responsible for completing the quiz on the day following your absence.
Time will be determined by teacher.
-
Homework (15%) - Homework will be given
regularly. It may be notes, questions, analysis of primary sources or
reading. Homework will always be due on the next class meeting unless
otherwise noted. If not completed by the next class meeting, you will only
have one day to make up homework. At which point you will only receive
half credit. If you are absent on the day the assignment is given there is
no penalty. If you are absent the day the assignment is due you will
present it the next school day you are present.
-
Class Participation (10%) - You will be
expected to take part in class discussions, activities and daily
assignments.
Rules and Expectations
-
World History II is a
challenging course. A willingness to devote considerable time to homework,
class work, and study are necessary to succeed. Expect four of five nights
of homework per week, some outside reading, and major projects. Complete
all assignments to the best of your ability.
-
Each student will be
required to come to class with your textbook, a pen or pencil, a notebook
and folder or binder in which to keep handouts. I recommend a three ring
binder to keep a good record of your past assignments and handouts. IT IS
YOUR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY TO BRING THESE ITEMS TO CLASS AND COMPLETE
YOUR ASSIGNMENTS.
-
Since the classroom is a
miniature model of society, everyone is expected to demonstrate respect,
courtesy, and fairness to every member of our community. Such model
behavior includes respecting the rules of the classroom and the school.
Everyone will be a positive contributor to society someday; therefore, I'd
like to see everyone begin that lifelong journey in this classroom. Any
misbehavior will not be tolerated.
