AM Extended Day
A.M. Extended Day is housed in the Florence Roche Cafeteria.
  • To drop off students for extended day you will need to drive around the back of the building using the road between Florence Roche and the Middle School.

  • Adults MUST accompany children into the cafeteria area for sign in.

  • Please use extreme caution when using this roadway.  Middle school students walk in this area between 7:00 AM & 8:00 AM.

  • Please be sure to follow all directional signs.  This is a one way road.

Changes In Your Child's Daily Routine
  • Be sure to send a note to your child’s teacher in the morning regarding any change in routine.
  • Teachers and office staff have been instructed not to dismiss students without a written notice.
  • If unexpected changes occur during the day, please contact the office as soon as possible so that we can ensure that your child is where he/she needs to be when they need to be there.
Early Dismissal

State law requires that students being dismissed before the official end of the school day be logged as early dismissal for state records.

Last minute dismissals for NON-emergency situations are strongly discouraged due to the disruption to the classroom and to your child’s school day.  Your cooperation will help us end the day calmly, safely and productively for all involved.

  • Please make every effort to notify the school office of unexpected early dismissals by 1:30 P.M. by calling 978-448-3988.
  • After 1:30 p.m., emergency dismissal calls should be made to the regular school phone line at (978) 448-6665.

Lunch Program

It’s well known that good nutrition helps children stay alert and attentive in the classroom, enabling them to learn better and improve their performance in school.  That’s why the Groton Dunstable School District is committed to offering healthy meals for students each school day.  In fact, over the past couple of years, we’ve made great strides toward offering healthier choices, including more salads, fresh fruit, and low-fat and low-sugar products on our school lunch menus.

Should you prefer to have your child bring in their lunch from home, please be sure to include an ice pack to ensure freshness, since refrigeration is not provided.  In addition, we encourage you to include healthy snack choices and avoid candy of all kinds.

If you have other questions regarding our lunch programs or should you require assistance please call Janice Buxton, the GDRSD Director of Nutrition Services, at (978) 448-5505.

School Behavior Plan

October 17 , 2007

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Parents, students, and staff are all part of the Florence Roche community and partners in education. We all play an important role in helping children reach their academic and social potential. Appropriate and polite behavior by all is critical to reaching goals in both areas.  With this in mind, a group of Florence Roche parents and staff worked together during the 2003-2004 school year to develop two tools to clarify behavioral expectations for our school.  These tools are the Florence Roche Behavioral Expectations Agreement and the Florence Roche School-Wide Behavior Plan.

Developing a sense of personal responsibility in children is a major goal of our school behavior policies.  Positive behaviors in children result from the modeling of peers and adults, as well as from expectations that are clear, consistent, and developmentally appropriate. The Florence Roche Behavioral Expectations Agreement and the Florence Roche School-Wide Behavior Plan were established to provide consistency for students, teachers, parents, and administrators, and to highlight behaviors that promote a productive learning environment.

A copy of the Florence Roche School-Wide Behavior Plan has been attached for your reference throughout the year.  The Florence Roche Behavioral Expectations Agreement has also been attached.  We ask that you please review the Agreement with your child, sign as indicated, and return it to school by Friday, October 19, 2007.

The majority of incidents that occur during the school day are handled positively and effectively within classrooms, on the playground, and in the cafeteria by the teaching staff.  When behavior is inappropriate, a variety of interventions may be used based on the general guidelines outlined in the Florence Roche School-Wide Behavior Plan, but the individual needs of the children are always taken into consideration.  Please be assured that you will be notified of any incidents that involve our school guidance or administrative staff so that concerns and consequences are communicated clearly and quickly.

The partnership between parents and school staff is key to ensuring a high quality educational experience for our children.  We look forward to working with you to positively influence the social and academic development of your children during this school year.  The Agreement and Plan truly support our belief that all children and staff have the right to a safe and comfortable school environment.  Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Sincerely,

Ruthann P. Goguen                                                                 Debra G. Diggins

School Cancellations and Delayed Opening

It is the district's policy to close school only in case of extreme weather or travel conditions.  In the event of inclement weather, and based upon road conditions projected by the highway department, schools may open 90 minutes later than usual, as opposed to canceling classes for the day.  Morning Kindergarten will be canceled.

Parents are advised to listen to the radio or television to determine whether school will be canceled or delayed.  Parents may also use their discretion in determining school attendance during adverse weather conditions.

Please listen for announcements.  Please do not call the police station or the school.  Announcements will be made on the following stations:
