Florence Roche Pick-Up And Extended Day Dismissal Procedures
2008-2009
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please review the following procedures for afternoon parent pick-up and for afternoon activities. Dismissal supervisors are staff members who are easily recognized by their staff badge.
All afternoon pick up students report to the gym, where our dismissal supervisors are located for parent/guardian sign out. The primary role of our dismissal supervisors are to assure that students are leaving the building with their appropriate parties.
If your child is going home with another student/parent, it is necessary to send in a written note. If your child is going home on the bus with another student, it is necessary to send in a written note.
All afternoon activities, such as Extended Day, Brownies and Boy Scouts, students are called to gym for pick up by their appropriate afternoon supervisor.
For the safety of our students we appreciate your cooperation with the procedures outlined below:
• Please plan to arrive by 3:00 PM, and proceed directly to the gym to wait for your child/children. The only adults who should be in the school lobby or hallways are school staff.
• Extended Day students are also dismissed to the gym at 3:10. Areas have been designated for Pick-Up and Extended Day students. Pick-up students and adults picking them up need to assemble in the right side of the gym. Extended Day students will assemble on the left side of the gym, near the stage.
An open lane that extends the entire length of the gym between the Pick-Up and Extended Day ‘zones’ is a “people free” area and needs to remain clear so students can enter and be guided to the appropriate area.
• For safety reasons, please keep your children close by you and under control. Running, chasing, or playing with gym equipment are not allowed during dismissal because of the possibility of accidents and general safety concerns.
• Children or adults are not allowed on the stage during dismissal.
• If your child has not arrived by the time bus students are being dismissed, please talk to one of the Dismissal Supervisors working in the gym to help you locate your child. They are in the best position to assist you at this time of the day. Please do not go to the office or classroom looking for them.
• Exit by the rear door of the gym as soon as possible to reduce congestion and avoid the rush of the bus student dismissals. Buses have been instructed to park further up in the circle to allow for greater ease of movement from the gym to the parking area.
• If your child forgets something in his or her classroom, please wait until all children -- including bus students -- have been dismissed before going to the classroom.
• If you need to speak to your child’s teacher, please do not go to the classroom during dismissal time. Teachers are responsible for their classes until all of their students are dismissed and they need to pay close attention during this busy time of the day to ensure that all children are dismissed to the correct place. Many teachers are also involved in a variety of after school meetings or workshops throughout the week, and need to leave their classrooms on time to make scheduled meetings or classes. Please call the school office or send a note to your child’s teacher to make an appointment that is convenient to both of you.
• If you are at the school to meet a group of children for after school activities that remain on site at Florence Roche, (e.g., Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, after school enrichment classes, etc.), please determine a specific place in the gym where you will meet as a group. These students are dismissed after buses are called. Please remain in the gym until all hallways are cleared of bus students before proceeding to your meeting location in the school.
These procedures are in place to ensure the safety of your children. We thank you for your cooperation in following them. If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at 978-448-6665.
Sincerely,
Principal
