The Pupil Personnel Services Department provides support services to all students in the Groton Dunstable school community. Services include health, counseling, psychological, social work, speech and language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, tutorial services for non-English speaking students, and special education services. As the healthcare needs of students have become increasingly complex, the role of the school nurse has expanded. Nurses are present in each school. The counseling staff provides individual and group counseling as well as a wide array of social skills and self-management training opportunities for students in all grades. The focus of these services is to help students develop a sense of self, to develop confidence in their ability to interact positively with others, to manage conflict in appropriate ways, and to make positive choices. A site-based model of special education exists in each school. A Team Chairperson, located in each school, conducts all team meetings, oversees the completion of and implementation of Individualized Education Programs, and serves as technical support to all staff in addressing special education concerns. The goal of the PPS office is to collaborate with parents in order to provide comprehensive services that enhance student access to the curriculum and foster student progress.
