Job Summary: The Administrative Assistant will perform comprehensive administrative duties for the Superintendent of Schools
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to recognize school-wide priorities and work cooperatively to support their accomplishment
- Ability to deal with highly confidential and legally sensitive material with utmost discretion
- Ability to work independently and direct his/her own work as well as work cooperatively with others to analyze complex issues to develop recommendations and proposals for the Superintendent of Schools
- Ability to verbalize, understand and synthesize complex documents
- Ability to exercise mature judgment and a high degree of tact and diplomacy in responding to and resolving issues and problems in a highly professional manner on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools
- General knowledge of Massachusetts Ch. 71 General Laws, Education Reform, working knowledge of DOE reporting policies and procedures
- Proficiency in working with Microsoft applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), ability to prepare complex correspondence and reports, staff and community newsletters
- Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals, elected officials, town-wide officials, DOE, DOR, MSBA, Legislative office officials and aides, staff, union officials and the general public
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with others, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work in an environment with interruptions
- Ability to perform detailed work accurately and efficiently within strict deadlines
- Ability to research, organize and prepare documents regarding contract negotiations, personnel administration, health benefits and other Human Resources functions
Education and Experience:
A minimum of an Associate’s degree in business, or two years’ secretarial or business course work, with knowledge of office administration, municipal operations, administrative practices, financial record keeping and automated office systems and procedures; 5-7 years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
